Anyone who went toe to toe with Stan Jonathan has my respect. You earned your cheque that night ! |

I know refs have to stick up for refs, but be honest and leave your love for boston out of this, do you think that moore penalty is called in a game 7 of a playoff round (god forbid the stanley cup) in a 1-1 game? |

Any ref worth a damn should make that call 10 times out of 10.

We'll see, typically power play opportunities drop in the playoffs, don't think it's by coincidence. |

That post in question bothered me as well Stewie. You stick to your guns. |

Hah Paul, one of the unspoken rules of the internet is that if you talk long enough; someone will insult you. Dismiss it and move forward. |

I'm left wondering about the mouth guard comments.
Is it a fact that they do no good?

Go get em. There's been many times I have disagreed with your opinion, but you're a man from the inside and came to those conclusions for certain reasons. Always gotta respect that. |

There's really no good research that they do do any good, as far as head injuries go, which they're advertised to prevent. They do help with teeth, to a degree, obviously if you get hit in the mouth by an 80 mph wrister you're going to lose some teeth, but it helps on those accidental high sticks. |

When used as intended they keep the jaw tight which would help prevent getting knocked out.
Soooo I would think that they do serve the purpose to an extent. |

Yes, like in boxing when the fighters keep their jaw clenched. Or when football players bite down on those huge pacifier like ones. With hockey players though? I'm not so sure.. take JVR for example, when was the last time you even seen him without half of it hanging out of his mouth? |

That's not really why you get knocked out. You get knocked out because your brain smashes against your skull. The reason boxers get knocked out when they catch a punch square "on the button" is because their head snaps back and their brain smashes against their skull, and then it's lights out. You're better off tensing your neck/traps so your head doesn't ragdoll. That's why football players have such huge necks.
They're better than nothing, and like I said they do a decent job of protecting the teeth, but there's no evidence they reduce head injuries. |

Eight months on chemo treatments
I may have disagreed with a call or two when you were a ref but as a fan that's my job
But off the ice I have full respect for you for going through chemo. I saw my mother go through it and it is tougher than any sob on the ice. Props to you and I hope you continue to beat cancers ass! |

OK... it WAS a penalty.
That said, I really wish the names were back on the ref's sweaters so we could boo the sh*t out of him next time!
The timing was tough to swallow, especially on a 4 game losing streak and taking a bad penalty in Toronto too. I will say that the Toronto ref's missed a high stick on Matthews so the Bruins were due one. (I know... no make-up calls!) Matthews showed a lot of class by not going all soccer player-drama queen when he got clipped. He just kept playing through like nothing happened. |
